Looking back 2021

Climate Classic

At the instigation of then State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven, on 14 June 730 cycling climate realists started the route along the coastline (NAP = 0m) that nobody wants to see, roughly the 375km line from Breda - Den Bosch - Utrecht - Hilversum - Harderwijk - Zwolle - Groningen. In 2020, there were still 45 participants.

For 2022, this predicts even greater enthusiasm. The facts and the perceived global warming have not diminished over the past year, so our impact must be greater. Bigger by more participants (awareness) and bigger by actually reducing CO2. Everyone already knows how (from the voting booth to a solar panel on your roof), now it's just a matter of prioritising and doing! We look forward to seeing you at the start of the 3rd edition on Monday 20 June 2022.

Gazelle 4 Climate

On Monday 14 June, simultaneously with the Climate Classic, we organised the Gazelle 4 Climate tour together with Koninklijke Gazelle and the Municipality of Utrecht. The earth is warming up, water levels are rising, biodiversity is declining. This is nothing new, and yet we often wonder what we can actually do. There are so many possibilities that it almost makes us dizzy. During this bicycle tour, we learned more about all kinds of fun, sustainable projects in Utrecht. But the main message was: Get on your bike!

The route started at Buurten in de Fabriek with an explanation from 'We Drive Solar' about the future of mobility. The first stop at the polders Rijnenburg and Reijerscop explained a possible energy park that could provide Utrecht with sustainable electricity.

We cycled on to Brouwerij de Leckere who, with a brewery tour and organic beer, explained the impact of the food supply chain on the environment. Of course, the 'Tiny Forest' of the University on the Utrecht Science Park could not be missed. Biodiversity is one of the most pressing challenges of today.

Finally, the participants finished off with a tasty organic lunch in the city centre at ANNE (Alle Nederlanders Nieuwe Energie) with an explanation of sustainability in the construction sector.
